Public Relations is going to last forever (or close to it). People are social creatures and enjoy forming relationships. Some people are better at it than others and if you are really good at communicating and making a social network than you should go into PR. Companies would be lost without the PR world and chances are nobody would know about them because they don’t have anyone to spread the word. PR professionals will be more in the front line in the future. People are obssesed with technology but people also like relations that technology does not offer. Yes, the internet offers a wider area to meet people and a “safe” place to get to know them, but it doesn’t offer that connection like when you have met someone and keep in touch through personal e-mails, etc. With the expansion of companies it should bring about an expansion in PR jobs. Companies have figured out the importance of a PR department and have realized that advertising is not everything. PR professionals are too involved in their job to ever let the industry fade away and if they had to they would create an organization all about saving PR jobs.
