I am so upset Kelsey was sent home from the Next Food Network Star.  She is passionate about food and is crisp in front of the camera, which cannot be said about the remaining contestants.  Maybe she didn’t have experience but at least she wasn’t stone cold like Lisa or excuse me, crying like Lisa.  Kelsey’s food was never undercooked-talking to you Adam.  And she can talk and cook unlike Aaron.  

So what if she was right out of school and she kept bringing it up–but atleast she was interesting to watch and would have a practical show.  Getting the cook into the kitchen because it can be easy and learn you can cook on a budget.  With the economy the way it is it would be great to have quick, easy, cheap meals to prepare and with the busy family no one has over 75 minutes to cook–unlike Lisa. 

Whoever wins will not be strong enough to have a show that is entertaining and encourages people to actually cook what they see on T.V.

I have been disappointed in the quality of contestants since the beginning but I definitely do not think Kelsey was the weakest of the four.

We all have those days when nothing seems to go right and then someone or something comes along to totally piss us off.  Or we don’t agree with people and how they raise their kids or how they complain about everything but do anything to fix it.  They talk politics and technology, parenting and obesity.  And sometimes it seems there’s no place to go.  Well I found this site www.wtfisnext.com and all the people do on it is speak their mind about hot topics.  It’s rather entertaining.  Have fun!

I love cooking for my friends in college and am always looking for something new to try.  In my quest so find something that would satisfy the whole group I found a great website that offers free recipes, tips, and how tos.  It’s amazing!  Now whenever I am going to have people over I go to www.mairecipes.comfirst.  I love the selection it has and how they are all FREE and EASY and totally DELICIOUS. 

Well I am in Colorado for the summer and can’t wait until mud season is over and I can get my bike out and head to the mountains.  I broke my arm snowboarding over spring break so have not done any riding since then so I am so eager to get and have fun.  One place I’m excited about going is over to SolVista in Granby.  I’ve heard their trails are pretty good and I found this website where I can view the mountain on a webcam.  The website is www.solvistasnow.com -go check it out and have fun and be safe this summer!

Well now that is school is over and it’s time to have fun, there are a few things I need to take care of first.  Those things would be the dreaded “spring cleaning.”  And since I read articles on the Internet I stumbled across a cleaning website called www.bleachlady.com and there are some great tips that are easy to do.  The tips from bleachlady make the job seem less overwhelming and I feel like I am accomplishing my cleaning list faster.  Go check it out.

With elections less than a year away, now is the time to start researching a candidate.  It is really easy to Google a candidate and read something about them.  I like to start with their campaign website and then branch out and read what other people think about them through blogs.  There are many issues that people want changed or feel passionate about so it is very important to spend the time getting to know the options for the future leader of America. 

I also look up what is being written about issues from everything like nuclear energy to organic foods.  I usually breeze through the news websites like MSN.com and CNN.com and then branch out from what’s on the home page if I see something interesting.  Reading the newspaper is also something else that is easy to do and keeps you informed on what is going on in your area.  It is just as easy to read it on-line and then you don’t have to worry about recycling the paper. 

Last week I sided with the idea that public relations is an ever evolving profession and the future looks bright for students sitting in PR classes around the world.  There is something that is going to separate the ones who are good at what they do from those who just aren’t going to make it, it is research.  We have been taught that you always start with research and it makes sense, you need to have all the information you can get your hands on.  The difference is how much time a day are you willing to spend researching social, political and economic issues on your own?  The future of public relations is bright if you stay current with technology and use the Internet to your advantage.  Every person in America has access to the Internet somewhere (home, office, Internet cafe, public library, etc.), but not everyone takes advantage of it.  As PR professionals we must embrace to idea of easy access to information anytime of day and the best part is the Internet is always being updated and current information is being added. 

The point has been brought up about whether or not the age of technology is really a good thing or if we are creating a big problem for ourselves in the future.  As a PR student I would say this is an issue to watch and read about as more people come public with their opinions.  And right now is a great time to practice researching skills with elections all around us.  Elections bring up issues that definitely have multiple sides and lots of information about them.  So not only have I spent time educating myself of the prediction of the future of public relations but I have been spending time each day reading about presidential candidates.  I look at one or two a day and compare as I go along. 

It’s up to me whether or not I stay current on the candidates and their platforms, just like it is up to each public relations professional on whether or not they stay in the career field.  A PR profession is not a regular work day of 9-5, a professional is always working.  The more information you have, the more prepared you are.  So it really is up to each individual if they want to stay in the game, because in the age of technology there is no excuse for not at least reading the headlines of the news or look at what Apple just released.  And with the holiday season approaching, reading about what toys are hot this year and what makes them the season’s favorite would be another topic to read about. 

The future of public relations is looks strong and healthy but what are professionals going to do?  Staying informed is the most important thing anyone could do to help their career.  The lazy ones won’t and will quickly be swept away by those who thrive on information and have figured out how easy it is to “google” for the topic. 

It’s Up to Us…

…Whether or not we are involved in the future of public relations. 

Public Relations is going to last forever (or close to it).  People are social creatures and enjoy forming relationships.  Some people are better at it than others and if you are really good at communicating and making a social network than you should go into PR.  Companies would be lost without the PR world and chances are nobody would know about them because they don’t have anyone to spread the word.  PR professionals will be more in the front line in the future.  People are obssesed with technology but people also like relations that technology does not offer.  Yes, the internet offers a wider area to meet people and a “safe” place to get to know them, but it doesn’t offer that connection like when you have met someone and keep in touch through personal e-mails, etc. With the expansion of companies it should bring about an expansion in PR jobs.  Companies have figured out the importance of a PR department and have realized that advertising is not everything.  PR professionals are too involved in their job to ever let the industry fade away and if they had to they would create an organization all about saving PR jobs.
