Web vs. Paper October 22, 2007

With everything being on the computer now it seems odd to have to print things off.  We keep our daily schedules, class notes, letters also known as e-mails, and much more on the computer.  We rely on the internet as our source of news and I can’t even count the number of times I have looked up medical information on the web.  We do research on topics and issues we hear about in passing throughout the day.  Computers are portable and buisnesses everywhere have wireless internet for you to connect to.  With all of this instant news and updates at our finger tips it seems like a waste of time and energy to print off papers, newsletters, coupons, etc.  I realize it is not the easiest thing to grade assignments on a computer screen compared to a printed version, but look at Bill Handy who grades our blogs everyweek.  It is possible.  Another example is on-line courses, all the work is turned in on the internet, which means professors grade it on the computer screen.  Also in a time when green is in we should eliminate all of the paper that is wasted on turning papers in by turning them in on-line.  As students at OSU we pay a fee to use the On-line Classroom, which has a digital dropbox and all teachers have access to it for each class.  It seems if we have it and students are paying for it, we should use it.

Six Friends October 15, 2007

WicketThe weekend was planned by perfectionists and yet had room for random and spontaneous fun.  Five friends, better make that six, set off for an adventure.  A weekend of freedom, relaxation, and bonding time was what they all needed.  Lots of lights outlined their home for the weekend.  The newest friend, who had only been adopted by the others less than a week before, was already fitting in nicely with the bunch.  He’s active like the rest of the five and was able to enjoy rock climbing and mountain biking as well.  He wasn’t too sure of the water when it was swim time, but he was content watching everyone else.

The new friend is younger than the rest and not as experienced, but he’s learning the rules of hanging out.  He also is smaller, but he sure doesn’t let that slow him down.  Sometimes his breath stinks and his short black hairs get all over the place, but he’s accepted by the five.  He is also learning to keep all fours on the ground because he just wants to cuddle all the time.  He certainly knows when to play the cute card.  He sits there with his ears perked and his big brown eyes staring and you can’t help but give him what he wants.

This one friend is definitely loved, which is what he has been waiting for.  Everything changed one Sunday for this little guy when two people went shopping at a pet store.  And there he was just begging for a home and someone to love him.  Well he got people to love him and play with him and give him a warm bed.  Wicket received a family.
